Revised Code of Conduct and Ethics

Texas Health Occupations Association, Inc. 

The reputation of THOA for honesty and integrity is the sum of the personal reputations of the directors, officers and members.  To protect this reputation and to promote the compliance with laws, rules, regulations and policies, the Board of Directors has adopted this code of conduct and ethics statement.  The Code of Conduct for THOA members is only one aspect of the commitment of THOA to attaining the highest degree of professionalism.

Professional Image

Members will project a positive and professional image of Health Science Educators.  Members will act as positive role models for students and peers in dress, voice, attitude, actions and demeanor.

Compliance with Laws, Rules, Regulations and Policy and Procedures

The membership will seek to comply with all national, state and local laws, rules and regulations during the course of conducting business.  Members will adhere to all policies and procedures set forth in the THOA Bylaws.


Members will maintain the confidentiality of all privileged information entrusted to the association or persons with whom the association does business, except when disclosure is authorized or legally mandated.

Honest and Ethical Conduct

THOA requires honest and ethical conduct from everyone associated with THOA.  Each member has a responsibility to all other members of the association to act in good faith, responsibly, with due care, competence and diligence, without misrepresenting material facts.

Conflicts of Interest

A “conflict of interest” exists when a person’s private interest interferes in any way with the interest of the organization.  Conflicts of interest may also arise if a member, or a THOA member’s family member, receives an improper personal benefit because of his or her position with the association.  THOA members must handle, in an ethical manner, any actual or apparent conflicts of interest between their personal and THOA relationships.  Conflicts of interest are prohibited as a matter of policy.

Consequences of Failure to Comply

  1. Review of situation by THOA, Inc Board of Directors
  2. Verbal reprimand in private by Board Members.
  3. If recommended and member is notified of such action, reprimand could be sent to the district of the member.
