JOB TITLE: Health Science Technology Teacher  – Job Details

REPORTS TO: Principal

 

COMPENSATION PLAN: Teacher Salary Schedule & Will Match Years of Service in Medical Field

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, a valid teaching certificate in Health Science Technology, two years of full-time wage-earning experience in your licensed occupational field, verified by your teacher preparation program.  May not be added by exam only.

 

Certification shall be based on experience and academic preparation in the skill area and require the following:

  1. a) A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
  2. b) Current licensure, certification, or registration by a nationally recognized accrediting agency as a health professions practitioner; the preparation program for licensure, certification, or registration must require at least two years of formal education
  3. c) Approval by the certification officer of an approved teacher preparation program, of two years of wage earning experience utilizing the licensure requirement described in subparagraph (b) of this paragraph, in addition to that required to be registered or certified.

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

– Proficient in the academic subjects needed to teach the statewide curriculum for Health Science Technology Education.

– Strong organization, communication, and interpersonal skills.

– Apply the concept of wellness and the fundamentals of disease prevention to promote healthy behaviors.

– Understand the roles of health care workers and the function of the diagnostic, therapeutic, informational, and environmental systems of health care.

– Able to use his/her professional work experience in the health care delivery system to help prepare students for successful careers in the health care industry.

– Understand industry safety policies, safety procedures, and preventive measures to minimize injury and illness.

– Understand the ethical and legal responsibilities of health care workers.

– Understand the importance of developing partnerships with parents/guardians, industry, education institutions, and the community to enhance student learning and strengthen the health science technology education program.

– Understand the importance of lifelong learning and continuing professional development.

– Ability to listen, follow directions, meet public, and interact positively with others.

 

Experience:

–  At least one year of student teaching or approved internship

–  Two years health care experience

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

 

  1. Use strategies and activities which result in :(1) increased student performance in content area and on standardized assessments specific to the subject taught     (2)  increased student success in meeting campus performance objectives addressing each of the Academic Excellence Indicator.
  2. Develop and implement plans for the curriculum program assigned and show written evidence of preparation as required and meet the needs of students.
  3. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodation for individual student differences.
  4. Present the subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
  5. Plan and use appropriate instructional/learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect accommodation for individual needs of students assigned.
  6. Communicate and promote expectations for high level performance from students and recognize excellence in achievement.
  7. Develop instructional activities, which incorporate appropriate student learning styles to meet student needs.
  8. Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established by Individual Education Plans.
  9. Attend ARD meetings and be prepared to discuss students’ strengths, weaknesses, and abilities.
  10. Communicate and interacts with students, parents, staff, and community in a positive manner.
  11. Cooperate with other members of the staff in planning and implementing instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
  12. Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for instructional assistants, and/or volunteers.
  13. Use technologies in the teaching/learning process as available and appropriate.
  14. Utilize technology to present content to the class.
  15. Assist students in analyzing and improving methods and habits of study.
  16. Consistently assess student achievement through formal and informal testing and provide progress and interim reports as needed and required.
  17. Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned.
  18. Present for students a positive role model for students that supports the mission of the school district.
  19. Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  20. Manage student behavior and administer discipline according to board policies, administrative regulations, and the IEP through the implementation of a proactive and positive classroom management plan.
  21. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  22. Assist in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials as requested.
  23. Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents.
  24. Schedule and conduct parent conferences with parents of students who are struggling or failing.
  25. Maintain a professional relationship with all colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
  26. Use acceptable communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
  27. Participate in campus and district staff development program.
  28. Maintain and improve professional competence through attendance at workshops, seminars, conferences and/or advanced courses at institutes of higher learning.
  29. Demonstrate interest and initiative in professional improvement.
  30. Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
  31. Keeps informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
  32. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
  33. Maintain accurate attendance records and identify chronic attendance problems.
  34. Follow district and campus policy in assignment of meaningful homework, which supports curriculum goals and objectives.
  35. Follow district and/or campus grading policy in the assignment of grades.
  36. Attend and participate in faculty meetings, department meetings, and committee meetings as required
  37. Report to work at the designated site on a regular daily basis according to the established work schedule.4
  38. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by Principal and/or Assistant Principal.
